Destination 2021

Last year did not go as we had hoped. There were a lot of things that did not happen that we intentionally wanted to happen. Our whole Easter season was spent from our couches. No Easter egg hunts, no Resurrection Sunday. Sunday School was cancelled. We ended up not having VBS for the children. But there was more that was suppose to happen. We, as a church were averaging almost 200 people. Because of this we were looking at new building ideas. There was some great excitement about the potential of a new building that would facilitate our growing needs.

After the whole country lockdown ended, our church attendance was just under half of what it was before covid. We have had some families choose to stay home. We have lost some opportunities to minister because of restrictions. The year that was suppose to be very intentional seemed to be a bust. Everything that we had planned on doing was postponed, altered or cancelled. And yet…

Joshua 1:1-9 NLT After the death of Moses the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. He said, “Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them. I promise you what I promised Moses: ‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you— from the Negev wilderness in the south to the Lebanon mountains in the north, from the Euphrates River in the east to the Mediterranean Sea in the west, including all the land of the Hittites.’ No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you. “Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

God’s Word to Joshua tells us, no more time for mourning. No more grieving. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged. I know it isn’t as you thought it would be. But I am moving. I am planning. I am fulfilling my promises. So arise, join me. Be Strong. Be Courageous.

God is not done here at St Joe. Sure we did not accomplish all we thought we would. But forget that. God is already doing something here and now! God is already doing something new in and through us here. God is moving. God is leading us.

All of that brings us to our theme for 2021. After praying and reading scripture, we really feel like God has given us this theme. Just like He has for the past 3 years. This year our theme is DESTINATION.

Will you journey with us?
