Baggage: Acts 15
Series: Past Sermons
This year we are going through the book of Acts. Our theme is Destination. The book of Acts, written by Luke who is a Gentile Physician, tells us about the first thirty years of the development of Christianity. About 20 years in, 20 years after the resurrection of Christ, a problem develops. We read about the problem and the solution the early church came up with in Acts 15. #stjoecofc #ComeAndSee #Destination2021 #baggage

The Journey Begins – part 2
    Series: Past Sermons
Last time we looked at most of chapter 13. The first official missionary journey, Paul and Barnabas sent out to preach and reach people for Christ. In 13, we saw that Paul and Barnabas took the message, the gospel, the good news about Jesus to both Jews and Gentiles. What we didn’t get to is the end of that chapter. What happened when Paul and Barnabas preached the truth about Jesus? Opposition. Anger. Hate. Joy. Hope. Filling with the Holy Spirit. Join us as we continue our journey with Paul & Barnabas in Acts 14. #stjoecofc #ComeAndSee #Destination2021 #TheJourneyBegins

Hello My Name Is Paul: I Have Been Commissioned
    Series: Past Sermons
For that past few Sundays, we have looked at Saul. In the beginning, Saul was waging war against the newly formed church. Saul went out of his way to make sure the Christians suffered. On his way to Damascus Saul’s life came to a halt. Saul met Jesus on that road, and it changed Saul. Saul went from chasing the church, to being part of it. Last week we saw how Saul was called by God to minister to others. With that calling Saul started teaching and preaching all over about the fullness of what God had said in the Old Testament. Saul went from being changed, to being called. Now let’s pick up his story in Acts 13:1-3 NLT

How do you do when it comes to sharing the good news about Jesus? For some people sharing the good news about Jesus is very natural. It comes easy for them. But for others, they find it very difficult. They get tongue-tied and nervous. They even worry that we might say the wrong thing. Yet, we all know we should say something. We know that God has changed us, and because of that, we know He can help others as well. We want to be a witness to this difference Jesus has caused in us. We are going through a sermon series called Scattered. The early church was growing fast, but encountered some troubles. When persecution came, the believers scattered. But as they scattered they kept telling people bout Jesus. Join us for Acts chapter 8.

It has been a rough year and a half. So many things have been happening, and so many of those things are not good. We have had a pandemic full of fear and control. We have had riots or protests. Political division. Medical division. Promoting of immoral behavior. Lack of transparency. There have been lots of changes in this covid era, even more in the post-covid world. How we work, go to the dr., shop, visit with folks, go to school, even “go to church” has dramatically changed. We did not willingly make most of those changes. And it has been difficult. For the most part, humans are adaptable, and we have accepted the changes we need to make, even if we do it reluctantly. The past year has seen the church "scattered" from our traditional routines and practices. What do we do now? Far too often the church only acts when it is required by external circumstances. We have been “scattered” away from our routine and reliance on the church building. Our traditional and comfortable ways of “doing church” have been disrupted and we have had to develop new ways of achieving eternal goals. What does God’s word have to say about the church that had been SCATTERED?

Troubles or the Church: Choosing the Wrong Side
    Series: Past Sermons
For the last several Sundays, we have been looking at troubles and the church. We have seen several troubles that have tried in invade the church, or hinder the church. Today Stephen is going to show us that we have a choice. What we have in chapter 7 is the longest sermon in the entire book of Acts. We were first introduced to Stephen in chapter 6. He is one the deacons selected to fulfill a ministry task so the church leaders could focus on preaching, teaching and prayer. Join us as we find out what Stephen has to say. #stjoecofc #ComeAndSee #Destination2021 #TroublesandtheChurch
