New Year’s Day
Series: Past Sermons
How should we enter this new year? What should we do to make the most of this year? Typically, on the New Year’s Sunday sermon you hear a message about a new year and new you. Or something about new year’s resolutions. Instead, this year I wanted to look at what each of us individually and as a church should do to be prepared for this next year. We are going to unpack a few verses in Romans 13. #stjoecoc #comeandsee #Foundation2023 #anunwaveringfaith

    Purse: An Invitation to Worship
    Series: Past Sermons
This month of November, we are going to continue to look through the Psalms, but focused more on the topic of worship. Pusue: Faith In Crisis
    Series: Past Sermons
Today we are going to look at Psalm 13. It is considered a Psalm of Lament, or Psalm of sorrow. In the book of Psalms where David is just singing praises to his God, his creator, but we also see it in many of those Psalms where David is in some sort of a pit. Pursue: Majestic
    Series: Past Sermons
Today, we are going to look at a more upbeat and uplifting Psalm. Not only that, it elevates man and woman to the status that they were created to have.  A status where they find themselves under the authority of God while being over the authority of all of God’s creation. Join us as we Purse: A Heart of Worship.

    Purse: Love Your Enemies
    Series: Past Sermons
Some of you think you don’t have enemies. While you may not have an army setting up camp ready to bring tanks and bazookas against you. You do have enemies. People who don’t like you. People who oppose you. People who are against you. Sometimes others make it unavoidable for us to have enemies. David found it so. He faced many enemies in his life, beginning with the big Philistine Goliath. The Philistines as a whole, other neighboring countries, even his own son. Join us as we Purse: A Heart of Worship even in the presence of our enemies. #stjoecofc #ComeAndSee #Pursue2022

    Pursue: Songs of Ascent
    Series: Past Sermons
These Psalms, the Songs of Ascent, were the songs families would sing together while on their way to the temple. They are the songs Jesus sang with His disciples while He was on His way up to Jerusalem for one of the feasts. Jesus had about a three year ministry with the disciples. So they went up to Jerusalem maybe as many as nine times together. Meaning Jesus most likely sang these psalms with the disciples. Purse: Help Me God
    Series: Past Sermons
This year we have been studying the life of David. We have journeyed through the books of 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, and 1 & 2 Chronicles. From there we moved on to the books of Psalms. God calls David a man after His own heart. This has catapulted David to be a recognized hero of the faith. But this has also pushed him to be considered above us, better than us. And yet as we looked through scriptures, we saw that David encountered times in his life where he chose to sin. Through David’s life, he constantly tripped himself into sins. Yet when he finally looked at his sin and then back into the holiness of God, David would worship God, repent and change the course of his own actions. This is what we see makes David a man after the heart of God. It is not that David’s heart was pure and holy, but that David’s inner desire, David’s ultimate goal was to be close to God.  Join us as we Pursue: A Heart of Worship. #stjoecofc #ComeAndSee #Pursue2022

There several ideas about gods. People all over the world have different views, names and attributes they give to the various gods they worship. Today as we continue our sermon series through the book of Psalms, we come to Psalm 19. This Psalm was written by David. It was intended to be part of the worship in the Temple. Pursue: The Jesus Psalm
    Series: Past Sermons
This is a Psalm of the Messiah, the Prince or King. In this psalm, we see that there are people against God, against the Messiah or the Lord’s anointed. Reading this made me ask the questions: Is what is described in this psalm a universal rule that holds true for every nation? Can these verses be about the United States?
